At the ¨Many Voices, One Region¨ Seminar, held in New York, Fernández urged to redouble actions to put an end to inequality and overcome the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Ukraine conflict.
Our continent has recently experienced the costs of being disunited: the end of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), the crisis of the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) and the emergence of the Lima Group and other projects that were not essentially Latin American and only generated dispersion, he said.
Now we are in a time of reunion and, as president of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), I guarantee there is, above any ideology, a decision to unite us, Fernández added, while praising this is a region of peace, with the necessary resources to face up current challenges.
We´re a source of food and energy for a world that really needs them. The secret is to see how we work together to grow in more equal conditions, he said.
Sustainable development is only possible if social justice prevails. We must work together again and call for the end of all blockades.
The Argentine president also pointed out the need to support the Caribbean in the crackdown on climate change and to achieve a greater regional integration.
The Americas must get deeply involved in the search for peace as soon as possible, because the idea of war spreading is highly risky for humanity.
