President Gustavo Petro, in his first speech on Wednesday, called on the entire population to participate in these meetings to be held in 50 territories where the ministries’ officials and State entities are present to learn about their needs.
“It will be an exploratory space, with a methodology defined by the National Planning Department and designed so that the National Government officials listen to citizens and collect their proposals” which will be analyzed by the cabinet as a whole and, finally, will be included as a “Sovereign Mandate” in the National Development Plan, Petro explained.
The head of State added that “the main objective will be to achieve a total peace, where all of us can live in equal conditions. A total peace built on strong foundations of social, economic and environmental justice,” axes in which a new country will be built.
Petro said that access to drinking water, energy tariffs, and climate change and its effects on cities, human security, territorial planning towards total peace, the fight against hunger, access to health, energy transition, and other issues focus on this joint dialogue.
“Transforming Colombia into a country living in Total Peace is not the Government’s exclusive task, nor of a few (…) the Colombian society will not remain passive in the face of historical injustice, all citizens must be an active part in the construction of a different country,” the president said.
