Liberating Donbass is Russia’s goal, according to Putin

Moscow, Sep 16 (Prensa Latina) The main objective of Russia's special operation in Ukraine is the liberation of Donbass, President Vladimir Putin declared today, at the conclusion of the high-level summit in the Uzbek city of Samarkand.

Our offensive operation in Donbass itself is not stopping, it is progressing slowly but steadily and the Russian army is getting more and more territories, Putin told reporters after the meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The president noted that the plan is not subject to adjustment, and the Russian General Staff makes active decisions as the operation continues.

Putin affirmed that the troops of his country are not in a hurry and that they act coherently.

In addition, he stressed that only a part of the Russian army and not all the country’s military is involved in the operation in Ukraine.

The president ordered the launching of a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, alleging that the self-titled people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, previously recognized by Moscow, needed help in the face of genocide by Kiev.

One of the fundamental objectives of the operation is what Putin defined as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine.

At the end of last March, the Ministry of Defense announced that it had reduced Ukraine’s war capacity during the first phase of the operation and would henceforth focus on the fight for Donbas.
