In a week marked by meetings among teachers and the exchange of experiences, including visits to crucial places for the history of this city, the UC recognized the former rector of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), as a sign of its identification with and support for our society at present.
Garcia said that the UC’s decision is a show of the affection and admiration that exists between both countries, with very similar cultures and whose historic ties make them increasingly closer to their peoples, “and I feel that the distinction has a memorial nature for my family and my country, this is a fascinating island.”
The protocol hall at the Ignacio Agramonte Revolution Square in Camagüey hosted the award ceremony where, in addition to professors, academics and teachers, Dominican Ambassador Flavio Amaury Rondon de Jesus was also present.
Studies for the training of doctors and other actions for the improvement of postgraduate studies in the Dominican Republic stand out among Garcia’s actions, which have borne fruit in the scientific and economic development of the entire region.
The UC and the UASD agreed to strengthen academic ties in early February, within the framework of the International Higher Education Congress held in Cuba.
