India is preparing to assume the rotating presidency of the SCO for the first time in 2023 after becoming a full member in 2017.
Previously, New Delhi successfully hosted the SCO Heads of Government Council meeting in November 2020, which is the group’s second largest meeting after the Heads of State Summit.
The Foreign Ministry said that the SCO meeting will be attended by leaders of member states, observers and other guests.
During the meeting, on September 15 and 16, it is expected that activities of the organization in the last two decades will be reviewed and the state and perspectives of multilateral cooperation for the future will be discussed.
Also, current issues of regional and global importance could be discussed, and it is likely that the Indian Prime Minister will hold some bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the SCO meeting, which includes China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Iran and India.
