Bolivia and Peru discuss on port after signing an agreement

La Paz, Sep 14 (Prensa Latina) Bolivia's Deputy Foreign Trade Minister Benjamín Blanco and his Peruvian counterpart Miguel Julián Palomino on Wednesday lead talks in Santa Cruz, on the use of the Peruvian port of Ilo, after the signing of understandings.

“Important agreements have been reached with the participation of our companies ASP-B as Enapu that allow us to have a 30-percent discount in handling cargo about the tariffs and an additional five percent of what the contenders are,” Blanco said at a press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He added that the Bolivian cargo would have “an exoneration of costs,” as it will not pay for the merchandise that remains in the storage centers of the port terminal for 120 days.

He added that the objective of these measures is to make Ilo a “real alternative for the Bolivian foreign trade,” a purpose of the visit of the delegation led by Palomino.

On Wednesday, the Peruvian representation will promote Ilo port’s advantages in front of Santa Cruz entrepreneurs.

Blanco confirmed that the cargo movement in the port of Ilo went from 35,000 tons in 2020 to 72,000 tons in 2021 and stressed that between January and August this year, this indicator reached 101,000 tons, a reflection of the growing interest by the Bolivian entrepreneurs.

To facilitate the increased movement of goods through this terminal, the Peruvian national port company Empresa Nacional de Puertos (Enapu S.A.) invested 10 million dollars in remodeling the port and programmed an investment of 60 million dollars to expand the storage area.
