The International Labor Organization (ILO), Walk Free and the International Organization for Migration stated that of that number, 28 million were in forced labor and 22 million were trapped in forced marriages.
The latest global estimates of modern slavery warn that women and children are disproportionately the most vulnerable, as this scourge is present in almost every country and crosses ethnic, cultural and religious lines.
The report indicates that more than half (52 percent) of all forced labor and a quarter of arranged marriages occur in upper-middle or high-income nations.
It also notes that 86 percent of slavery occurs in the private sector, while areas other than commercial sexual exploitation account for 63 percent of all slave employment.
To this he adds that around four out of every five people subjected to commercial sexual exploitation are women or girls.
Both the ILO and Walk Free and the International Organization for Migration indicate in their estimates that forced employment imposed by the State represents 14 percent of the people subjected to this type of exploitation.
In addition, almost one in eight forced laborers are children (3.3 million), and more than half of them are subjected to commercial sexual abuse.
