India-China military withdrawal is on schedule

New Delhi, Sep 12 (Prensa Latina) The military withdrawal of India and China in the Gogra-Hotsprings area in eastern Ladakh territory, in Kashmir, is on schedule, General Manoj Pande, chief of the Indian Army, announced on Monday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported last week that the withdrawal will be completed this Monday.

The Indian and Chinese troops began a coordinated and planned withdrawal from the Gogra-Hotsprings area on Thursday, September 8, to promote peace in the border regions.

The move comes according to the consensus reached at the 16th round of the India-China Corps Commander level meetings held in July, the Foreign Ministry stated in a brief communique.

The military withdrawal also precedes the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit to be held next week in the city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan, in which Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping will participate.

India and China have been engaged in a border clash since June 2020, resulting in several deaths in the Galwan Valley, in eastern India’s Ladakh territory.
