“We´re working together with Parliament to unite necessary willingness and reach agreements that allow us to outline that future in the short term”, Boric said.
In his speech, the Chilean president referred to the Sept 4 Referendum, where a draft constitution to replace the one in force since the times of Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship (1973-1990) was strongly rejected by majority.
“The results cannot be appropriated by anyone in particular and do not make the mistake of believing that its rejection means a rejection of changes and transformations in Chile”, he warned.
Boric recalled the defeat at the ballot box by those in favor of the text was democratic, unlike 49 years ago, which was conducted by arms, violence, ignominy and betrayal.
“Democracy takes time and I am pretty convinced that we will have a Constitution all of us, regardless of differences, can feel proud of”, he assured.
