Cuba: 119 people discharged from hospitals after Matanzas fire

Havana, Sep 10 (Prensa Latina) Cuba on Saturday informed that 119 patients with burns from the fire that occurred in the Supertanker Base in western Matanzas province had been discharged from hospitals. According to a report from the Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), 146 patients, including 139 men and seven women, have been treated.

Ten men and one woman remain hospitalized, while four people are in critical condition, one is seriously injured, and six are in care.

The patients are being treated in four Cuban healthcare centers and of 119 medical discharges, 113 are men and six are women.

MINSAP recalled that the death toll is 16 so far.

The incident occurred on Friday evening, August 5, when a lightning bolt during a storm hit crude oil tank number 52 at the Matanzas Supertanker Base.

The flames, which were suffocated with specialized means and forces from Venezuela and Mexico, devastated four tanks of domestically produced crude oil.
