UNICEF reinforces commitment to vaccination of children in Lebanon

Vacu1
Beirut, Sep 8 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) reinforced its commitment to close the gap that prevents children in Lebanon from accessing basic vaccines.

UNICEF renewed its cooperation with the Lebanese Red Cross, aiming at vaccinating more than 150,000 infants at the local community level and provide them with various comprehensive health and nutrition services.

UNICEF’s representative in the country, Edward Beigbeder, stressed that vaccines are the safest way to protect children from diseases that threaten their lives and safety.

Beigbeder said that the objective of the partnership with the Lebanese Red Cross is to ensure that no child and adolescent are left out of the routine vaccination cycle, regardless of nationality and place of residence.

The official said that the three years of successive and devastating crises in Lebanon seriously affected the ability to cover national vaccination campaigns.

UNICEF said in a statement that the alliance with the Red Cross will provide direct support to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health in order to strengthen the immunization program and ensure the reconnection of children deprived of their rights.

Data from specialized United Nations institutions showed that around two million people throughout Lebanon demand humanitarian health services, an increase of 43 percent since August 2021.
