The Romanian charge d’affaires, Konstantin Ionitse, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and given a note on the expulsion of a member of his embassy in Moscow, says a note from the Foreign Ministry.
“The measure responds to a similar decision announced by Romania against one of the diplomats of our embassy in Bucharest,” says the official statement.
Last August, the Romanian government demanded the departure of a Russian diplomat from the country.
Tensions grew between Moscow and Bucharest after Romania declared 10 Russian embassy officials persona non grata in April of this year, to which Moscow responded with a symmetrical decision last May.
