“The opening of the border crossing is nearing to be completed after 30 years of waiting, which will make it possible to boost the economic and commercial flow, as well as the relations between two peoples,” Bolivian Deputy Foreign Trade Minister Benjamin Blanco said in a statement to the press.
The deputy minister toured the area along with Peruvian Ambassador to La Paz Karina Palacios, who described the current level of the bilateral relations as “very high.”
According to Blanco, this opening will allow a direct import and export of products without previously passing through the Brazilian city of Epitaciolandia with the corresponding saving of economic resources and time.
Referring to the issue, Senator Adolfo Flores said that the state of Pando wants that the passage is inaugurated on October 11, the anniversary of the Battle of Bahia.
However, the decision will be defined by Bolivia’s President Luis Arce and Peru’s Pedro Castillo, who agreed on October 30, 2021, during the so-called 6th Binational Cabinet, to build the Extrema-San Lorenzo border crossing.
