The Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hani Sewilam, and the Secretary General of the WMO, Petteri Taalas, discussed an initiative that both parties related to water will present at the next climate summit, which will be held in November, specified a official statement.
Sewilam expressed Egypt’s wish to host a regional center for the prediction of climatic phenomena in order to increase the preparation of the countries in the area in the face of extreme situations such as floods and droughts.
A week ago Sewilam warned that water scarcity and the adverse effects of climate change pose many challenges for Egypt, which has a population of over 103 million.
