Convention on primary health care kicks off in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, Sep 7 (Prensa Latina) A convention organized by the Ministry of Health and the International Institute of Primary Care of Ethiopia began on Wednesday with the purpose of promoting innovative practices and ideas to improve essential medical assistance.

The meeting will be held virtually under the theme ‘Primary Health Care in a changing world: past, present, future, as well as challenges and opportunities for PHC financing’.

According to the call for the event, published on the Ministry’s official website, the Minister of Health, Lia Tadesse, and Ellen MacKenzie, dean of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, will make up the group of speakers.

Ethiopia has made considerable progress in recent years in some health indicators, but still has a long way to go to achieve greater coverage and better efficiency in essential health care, which must be universally accessible to all people, at a viable cost for the nation and the community.

Acute respiratory infections, meningitis, measles, congenital anomalies and HIV, among many other diseases, are some of the main problems in children under five years of age and solving them is one of the current priorities of the Ministry of Health.
