The announcement was made by Alvaro Elizalde, president of the Senate, and Raul Soto, president of the Chamber of Deputies, after a meeting held in La Moneda Palace with President Gabriel Boric, in which representatives of all parties participated, except the conservative Republican Party.
The idea is to establish a roadmap with clear deadlines and procedures and, most importantly, to take into account the will of citizens who are the protagonists of the new draft Constitution, Elizalde said.
The legislator thanked the constructive willingness of all parties that participated in the meeting, not only those of the Government, but also those of the opposition.
This week, President Gabriel Boric initiated contacts with the leaders of Parliament and the political parties, to advance a new process, after the proposed referendum drafted by a joint commission was rejected.
The proposal sought to replace the fundamental law in force since the time of the military dictatorship (1973-1990).
According to Boric, the people were not at all satisfied with the project presented by the constitutional convention and therefore rejected it clearly at the polls.
