IAEA avoided recognizing Ukrainian attacks

central-nuclear-Zaporiyia
Moscow, Sep 6 (Prensa Latina) The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) avoided acknowledging Ukraine's attacks against the Zaparozhye nuclear plant in its report on the security of that facility, the "Us together with Russia" movement denounced today.

For the leader of that organization, Vladimir Rogov, the IAEA turned a blind eye to the situation in the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, under artillery fire from Ukrainian troops since last August 5, according to Moscow.

The report of the aforementioned international organization refers to the need to create a security perimeter around the aforementioned facility, visited last Thursday by an IAEA mission, headed by its director general, the Argentine Rafael Grossi.

Rogov, who is part of the Russian administrative council of Zaparozhye, pointed out that the atomic watchdog has strayed from its duties and has not issued a single concrete call for the Ukrainian side to end nuclear terrorism at the plant, he stressed.

This happened despite the fact that the IAEA experts were given reliable evidence about the aggressions of the Ukrainian troops, he declared.

For the Russian official, the atomic oversight body is far from being the best example of sincerity, transparency and courage.

Officials of that international entity met last Friday with residents of the city of Energodar, where the nuclear plant is located, who offered details of a month of Ukrainian artillery fire, with the balance of several deceased civilians.

However, and despite having a permanent mission of at least two experts at the nuclear power plant, which received an impact this day in one of its six blocks, the IAEA report only refers to the need to create a security zone in the region.

The continuity of the artillery attacks can damage extremely important systems and equipment of the nuclear power plant, which could have much more serious consequences, says the report, which avoids mentioning the person responsible for these attacks.

The IAEA states that among the dangers is the possible uncontrolled expansion of radioactive materials into the environment. For this reason, any artillery fire that puts the safety of the plant at risk must be avoided, highlights the document of that body.

The Ukrainian side points out that Russia is carrying out alleged self-aggression actions in the aforementioned facility and is in favor of a demilitarization of the area.

Russia reported last Thursday that it had aborted a Ukrainian operation to storm the plant, on the eve of the IAEA visit.

Russian troops, together with the personnel of the nuclear power plant, have maintained control of that facility since last March, shortly after the February 24 announcement made by President Vladimir Putin about the start of a military operation in Ukraine.
