Through a press release, the Lulo Mining Society announced on Monday the extraction of the 160-carat precious stone, in a deposit located in the municipality of Capenda Camulemba, in the province of Lunda Norte.
White in color and inscribed in typology IIA, the rough piece is number 28 with more than 100 carats discovered in Lulo and the sixth largest found there, the company said.
According to experts, the most famous and brilliant natural diamonds in the world are IIA, which represent only between one and two percent of those reported internationally.
The new specimen from the Lulo mine appeared in the same block where the 170-carat pink rock, baptized with the name “Rosa de Lulo”, was recently extracted.
According to the source, the “Rosa de Lulo” is the largest diamond of that tone discovered in 300 years on a global scale and the fifth largest in the history of Angola.
Since the beginning of its exploration in 2010, the mine revealed a high potential of quality and quantity, considered the consortium, in which the Australian Lucapa Diamond Company Limited participates.
