In a message to the nation, Boric also announced rounds of conversations to know the initiatives of different sectors committed to continuing with this project.
The president made the announcement after the results of the September 4 referendum were published, where the constitutional text drafted by a joint commission was rejected by 61.87 percent of the voters, against 38.13 percent of those in favor of the “I Approve” option.
The proposal aimed at replacing the fundamental law approved in 1980, during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990).
According to Boric, the people were not satisfied with the project presented by the constitutional convention and therefore rejected it clearly at the polls.
After the triumph of the “I Reject” option was recognized in the referendum, the spokesmen of the “I Approve” option urged the opposition to comply with the commitment to make progress in drafting a new Constitution.
