According to local activists, columns of smoke rose from the site after the explosions, while reconnaissance aircraft intensified their flights in the area.
Al-Omar is the largest oil field in Syria and is home to one of the largest US bases. The base has been attacked on several occasions, the last one saw the use of missiles on August 28th, with three US soldiers wounded.
The Government of Damascus has repeatedly denounced this unauthorized presence, describing as an occupation, and assured that Washington’s actions encourage terrorist activity, since separatist groups and opposition extremists are trained in their bases.
