The triumph of the August Revolution, which occurred on August 19, 1945, and the emergence two weeks later of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, marked a turning point not only in the history of this Asian nation, but also of the world revolutionary movement.
Centuries of feudal exploitation, more than 80 years of French colonial domination, and the expulsion of the Japanese fascists were left behind, to usher in the resurgence of the nation under the wise and far-sighted leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), led by Ho Chi Minh.
At a ceremony to commemorate the anniversary, Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc stressed that overcoming countless difficulties and challenges, the country has become a developing economy, people’s lives have improved, the political and social situation is stable, and defense and security are guaranteed.
Xuan Phuc pointed out that in the last 35 years, Vietnam achieved an average annual economic growth of seven percent, which allowed it to rank among the 40 economies with the largest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) scale and among the 16 most successful emerging economies.
To date, he pointed out, the country has received around 430 billion dollars of foreign direct investment from 140 countries or territories to develop almost 35,000 projects.
