Spanish officials condemn attempted murder of Cristina Fernandez

Madrid, Sep 2 (Prensa Latina) The head of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sanchez, deplored the "attempted assassination of the Vice President of Argentina, Cristina Fernandez," and expressed his condemnation.

Sanchez took advantage of his tweet to send all his “love and solidarity” to Fernandez, who was the victim of an assassination attempt near her residence.

“Hate and violence will never defeat democracy,” Sanchez said, who joined other leaders who expressed their solidarity with Fernandez and repudiated the frustrated attack.

Footage from the C5N television channel showed the moment in which a man put a pistol to Fernandez’s head, who was promptly shoved to the ground by her security detail. The weapon failed to discharge. The individual, currently under detention, is a 35-year-old Brazilian citizen.

The Second Vice President and Minister of Labor of Spain, Yolanda Diaz, also sent a message of solidarity and support to Fernandez via Twitter.

The Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), Podemos, Izquierda Unida and the Communist Party of Spain, also condemned the attack against Cristina Fernandez.
