The abnormal heavy monsoon rains and melting glaciers triggered floods that have submerged a third of the country and killed at least 1,191 people, including 399 children, since June 14, the National Disaster Management Authority showed.
The Government in Islamabad stated that 33 million people, 15 percent of 220 million inhabitants, are affected, while the army has evacuated some 50,000 people since rescue work began, The Express Tribune reported.
The floods have washed away homes, businesses, infrastructure, roads, and crops, while some 480,000 citizens are displaced and are being cared for in camps.
The World Health Organization warned that more than 6.4 million people need immediate humanitarian aid.
