Washington, Sep 2 (Prensa Latina) President Joe Biden on Friday requested $11.7 billion in emergency funding from Congress to provide lethal aid and budget support to Ukraine, despite complaints such a stance fuels tensions with Russia.

The emergency funding request will also include $2 billion to address the impact of Russia’s war in Ukraine on US energy supplies, Shalanda Young, director of the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), wrote in blog post.

The Joe Biden Administration also urged Congress to provide more funds for the response to the Covid-19 pandemic, monkeypox virus and disaster assistance.

The $47.1 billion request comes ahead of the conclusion of the 2022 fiscal year on September 30.

In 2022, Congress passed over $53 billion in Ukraine supposed aid, and past July authorized a $400 million package that included four additional high-mobility rocket systems.

On Thursday, President Vladimir Putin reasserted that its military operation goal is to end Kyiv´s war on self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, as well as to guarantee Russia´s protection. pll/lam/cgc
