This law was established in the Republic of Cuba’s Official Gazette edition number 90 of August 25, 2022, whose legislative content was approved by the National People’s Power Assembly on May 14.

About the main idea of the law, the Cuban Minister of Justice recently referred on how Article 97 of the Constitution of the Republic recognizes the right of every person to have access to his or her data and ensure his or her non-disclosure. According to the publication by the Ministry of Justice’s website, this norm offers security to the citizens to have access to data stored in records, files, databases, and public information, as well as request their modification and obtain the due correction, rectification, modification, updating or cancellation.

“The Law for the Protection of Personal Data is the concretion of the priority that Cuba requires to have a legal regulation of this kind, where the fundamental principles and guarantees for the protection of the holder of the personal information are delimited, and raise the citizens’ perception of risk in the face of the destination and treatment of their data,” the Cuban judicial body highlighted.
