According to researchers, over-80s live longer if they walk for at least one hour a week.
Researchers´ advice goes also to the rest of adults, who should walk for least 150 minutes a week or 75 minutes a week of vigorous-intensity activity, or equivalent combination.
Scientists warned that as time goes by, human beings tend to become sedentary.
The study released by the scientific entity examined the association between walking and the risks of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality over-80s.
Those who walked at least one hour per week had up to 40% lower risk of death compared to those who were inactive, researchers found.
Our study suggests that walking at least one hour every week is beneficial for people aged 85 years and older. Put simply, walk for 10 minutes every day.
“You have to keep walking all your life,” the European Society of Cardiology said.
