Luanda, Aug 26 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Ricardo Cabrisas arrived in Luanda today to attend the funeral ceremonies of former Angolan President José Eduardo dos Santos.

Cabrisas was received at the February 4th International Airport by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Angola, Téte Antonio.

The welcoming ceremony was attended by officials from the local Foreign Ministry and the ambassador of Cuba, Esther Armenteros.

After learning of the death of Dos Santos, the Cuban authorities decreed an official day of mourning and expressed their condolences to the Angolan people and government for the physical disappearance of whom they described as ‘a sincere friend’ of Cuba and its historical leaders, Fidel and Raul Castro.

Dos Santos was born in Luanda on August 28th, 1942, and ruled for 38 years and earned the popular title of “architect of peace” for his contribution to the end of almost 30 years of civil war and the beginning of the process of national reconciliation.

The mortal remains of the dignitary were received in the capital on August 20th, from Spain, where he died on July 8th at the age of 79 in a Barcelona hospital.

The Angolan Foreign Ministry notified diplomatic and consular missions accredited in the country that the funeral will take place in Luanda on August 28th.
