Penn, a US actor, writer, director and politician, and winner of two Oscar awards for his performance in the films “Mystic River” (2003) and “Milk” (2008), will tell the story of four missionary women who were kidnapped, raped and murdered on December 2 of that year.
The US production will evoke the real story of those nuns, according to Variety.
The murder of Maryknoll Sisters Maura Clarke and Ita Ford, Ursuline Sister Dorothy Kazel and lay missionary Jean Marie Donovan, which shocked the international and local community, will narrate how the four women were detained by the military forces and their bodies found the following day on a dirt road, with signs of torture and raped.
This event occurred when the Government of El Salvador, with Washington’s support, was facing a popular war of resistance in which human rights violations by the military forces were normal.
The film is based on an investigative article by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Raymond Bonner.
