Two attacks against allied forces reported in Syria

Siria-Fuerzas-Aliadas-300x200
Damascus, Aug 24 (Prensa Latina) Syrian media outlets confirmed two armed actions against Russian and Iranian soldiers deployed in Syria at the request of Bashar Al-Assad’s government to contribute to the fight against terrorism and the stabilization of the country.

A senior officer of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards was killed in a hostile attack during his mission as an adviser, Iranian authorities reported as quoted by the al-Watan diary.

According to the newspaper, the deceased is named Abu Al-Fadl Alijani, a commander of the ground forces of the Revolutionary Guard, although no details were given about his death.

Unidentified militants detonated a explosive device on the route of a Russian military police patrol in the Quenitra province, some 70 kilometers southwest of the capital.

Activists reported that the irregulars planted the device on the side of the road between the towns of Ghadir Al-Bustan and Al-Muallaqa, near the line of separation of forces with the occupied Syrian Golan and a few meters from Israeli army positions.

The damage was limited to matériel; no injuries were reported among the Russian personnel.

Since the beginning of the war in Syria in 2011, Iran has offered military support and advice to the Syrian Army in its war against terrorist organizations, while Russia deployed a military contingent since September 2015, which contributed to the defeat of terrorist organizations in most of the country.
