Independent Movement leader calls for talks to solve Haitian crisis

Port-au-Prince, Aug 23 (Prensa Latina) The leader of the Haiti´s Independent Movement for Integrity and Reconciliation Clarens Reonois on Tuesday urged to a dialogue process that help Haiti lead out of the crisis and the domestic violence wave.

A day following the massive demonstrations against poverty, inflation and insecurity, Reonois assured that all Haitians, regardless of their tendencies, must find a way to exchange criteria regarding Haiti´s present situation and become reconciled to get national sovereignty and dignity back.

In a pre-recorded message on social media, Renois called for shielding the legacy of the nation’s founders like Jean Jacques Dessalines and Toussaint Louverture.

The call comes to light following the failure of talks between Haitian Government and opposition, in the search of a political agreement for stability and governance, and while domestic situation is increasingly threatening for millions of Haitians.

The surge of commodity and fuel prices, in addition to the violence wave, have worsened Haiti´s multidimensional crisis.

On Monday, thousands of Haitians protested in the country´s capital and other cities such as Cap Haitien, Les Cayes, Petit Goave and Jacmel against the increased misery and insecurity, while calling for Prime Minister Ariel Henry´s resignation.

Protesters condemned food prices have increased fivefold, while gasoline can only be bought in the informal market.
