On Friday, Macron called on the people when addressing the situation in Ukraine to have “the strength of the soul to face the time that is coming (…) and to accept united paying the price of our freedom and our values”, during a speech for the 78th anniversary of the liberation of the Bormes-les-Mimosas commune from Nazi Germany.
According to Ciotti, Macron must clarify whether his words mean that France will assume a stronger commitment in the military field, when it is already sending weapons to Ukraine.
“I do not want us to go any further, because we are not a belligerent party in the conflict,” he stressed.
The deputy for The Republicans insisted that Macron should elaborate on what he said, lest he try to attribute to the conflict the economic errors of his government in sectors such as energy.
