Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran said that Wednesday evening’s blast occurred in Sadiq Akbar mosque when many worshippers were in attendance, TOLO News stated.
The official vowed that the police would bring the perpetrators to justice.
The blast caused a strong reaction from several Afghan leaders, among them former President Hamid Karzai, who condemned it on Twitter and said it was against human and Islamic values.
Afghanistan has witnessed regular attacks by armed gangs, many of them claimed by an affiliate of the ISIL terrorist group known as Islamic State in Khorasan province, in recent months.
