In its weekly publication La lettre électronique Hebdo, CubaCoop urged friends of Cuba and people sensitized by the serious accident to offer their monetary contribution to a campaign that has already collected 20,000 euros.
Around 200 donors have already made their solidarity contribution through the website of the Association, which was founded in 1995 to promote economic cooperation between the two countries.
CubaCoop’s founding president Roger Grevoul described the response to the collection as encouraging and highlighted the participation of individuals and organizations such as a departmental union of the General Confederation of Labor and the Cuba Linda association.
Grevoul regretted the considerable human and material damages caused by the dramatic event, triggered on August 5 when a lightning struck one of the fuel storage tanks at the Supertanker Base in the western province of Matanzas, causing explosions and a voracious fire.
On Wednesday, Cuba’s Ambassador to France Otto Vaillant thanked the gestures by the Association, other organizations and individuals on French soil in these difficult times for the Caribbean nation.
