According to Prosecutor Xiomar Rodríguez, the operation was conducted during a routine inspection, when SENAN agents detected anomalies in the seals of a container aboard a ship arriving at Colón province.
According to local authorities, 64 bags -whose content is allegedly to be cocaine-, were detected inside the container.
Public Prosecutor´s Office detailed it is investigating whether the container was contaminated with cocaine in Panamanian ports or whether the drug was already inside as it left Colombia.
Drug trafficking that uses Panama as a bridge has its major markets in the United States and Europe.
According to the Security Minister Juan Manuel Pino, Panama seized 128 tons of drugs in 2021, nearly 40 tons more than its previous historical record for drug seizures in 2019.
