JOAP with Iran close to being reached, says Russia

Moscow, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) The final agreement to reestablish the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program could be reached coming week, JCPOA´s Russian Representative Mikhail Ulyanov said Sunday.

“This will happen in the event that all countries agree with the text distributed by the EU coordinators on August 8,” the Russian diplomat told TASS.

In this regard, Ulyanov added that in case of amendments or objections it would be so hard to predict the time; however, he stressed that a possible solution must be set early coming week.

“As coordinators, the EU can propose compromises, and it did so. In fact, the United States seems to have given its approval and Iran has not yet expressed anything to the proposal, so I will not speculate on questions Iran may still have.

Back in 2015, the UN Security Council´s five permanent member countries Germany signed the JCPOA with Iran, in order to solve the crisis regarding its nuclear development.

However, former President Donald Trump made the decision to withdraw his country from this pact in 2018. While current US administration repeatedly expressed his willingness to rejoin JCPOA.
