Matanzas, Cuba, Aug 10 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Wednesday checked the work at the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant in this city, where efforts are being made to guarantee the water supply that the plant requires to function.

The head of State learned details about the actions to stabilize the supply to the plant, which due to problems in its boiler has an overconsumption of water, the Cuban Presidency reported on its Twitter account.

Diaz-Canel also verified in areas of the industrial zone of this city the efforts to solve a fault in a hydraulic conduit that provides service to the thermal generation unit.

These tasks are undertaken in the midst of actions to extinguish the large-scale fire at the Supertanker Base in Matanzas, which is currently under control.

The Hydraulic Resources Institute President Antonio Rodriguez noted that the agency will supply enough water for the operations the plant’s unitary block, as it is considered the largest and most efficient power generator in Cuba.

The plant was out of service due to lack of water, but managed to synchronize on Tuesday with the national power grid and it is stably generating 215 megawatts, the plant’s general director, Misbel Palmero, told President Diaz-Canel.
