Cuban government assesses Dengue and Covid-19 backsliding

Havana, Aug 10 (Prensa Latina) Cuba is currently showing an increased dengue and Covid-19 infectious figures in week 31 of the year, according to a government meeting headed by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel.

In the meeting, held at the Revolution Palace in Havana, the First Deputy Public Health Minister Tania Cruz said as many as 28,850 Aedes aegypti mosquitoes breeding grounds were detected in such a period.

A press release from the Presidency´s official website detailed dengue transmission was reported in 12 provinces, 25 municipalities and 37 health areas, with top cases in Havana, Holguín, Camagüey, Santiago de Cuba, Sancti Spíritus, Las Tunas, Matanzas and Cienfuegos.

During the week, 17,534 IGM SUMA samples were analyzed for diagnosing the disease, reaching up a 53.8% positivity rate.

Regarding the Covid-19 figures, it was learned its transmission surged, mainly in central and eastern provinces, with predominance of Omicron subvariant BA.5

The Cuban health system is presently conducting a strategy for the country´s epidemiological stability based on primary health care to actively detect suspected cases, diagnose and isolate them.
