Bolivia confirms sixth monkeypox case

La Paz, Aug 10 (Prensa Latina) Bolivia´s health authorities have confirmed the sixth monkeypox case, the National Epidemiology Director Freddy Armijo said at a press conference.

“Together with Sede Santa Cruz (Departmental Health Service), health authorities have instructed total isolation of the 24-year-old Venezuelan patient living in the city of Santa Cruz in order to avoid further contagion,” Armijo stated, while explaining monkeypox virus is transmitted by close contact with an infected individual.

Armijo added the patient does not suffer from any underlying illness and was infected in Bolivia.

So far, doctors have screened 38 suspected cases, 32 of them came back negative.

Giving further particulars on the Venezuelan patient, Armijo stressed the patient is facing up phase 2 of the disease, showing symptoms like fever, myalgia, headache, tiredness and fatigue. All these symptoms will last 6 to 13 days.

According to health authorities, out of the six confirmed cases, three of them are imported cases and three were infected in Bolivia.
