We express our most sincere condolences to the people, government and leadership of Cuba and to the families of the victims, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The press release reiterated the full solidarity and total support for the efforts made by the Cuban Government to put out the fire and reduce the losses.
We are on Cuba’s side in these difficult conditions and in its confrontation with all the challenges, in particular the economic sanctions imposed by the United States, which until now has only issued “empty” statements on the impact of these fires, the Foreign Ministry concluded in its statement.
According to official information, a lightning hit one of the fuel tanks in the Matanzas industrial zone last Friday and caused the fire that, since then, has resulted in one deceased, 125 injured and 14 missing.
