Data from the most recent Continuing Employment Survey of the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) show that the number of people unemployed was from 434,000 in the second quarter of 2021 to 284,000 in the same period of 2022.
In percentage, it varied from 18.1 percent between April and June 2021 to the already mentioned 11.7 percent in those three months of 2022, and it was also the lowest unemployment rate since 2019, INEC refers.
Once again, Costa Rican women continue to be the most affected by unemployment.
Of 284,000 unemployed people between April and June, 151,000 were women and 133,000 were men.
The Continuing Employment Survey also showed that in absolute terms, the labor force in Costa Rica currently consists of 2.44 million people, 1.46 million of which are men and 981,000 are women, while 2.15 million people have a job.
