Palestinian Gov’t denounces rise in aggressions by Israeli settlers

Ramallah, Aug 4 (Prensa Latina) The Palestinian Government on Thursday condemned the increase in attacks perpetrated by Israeli settlers on the civilian population in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and warned about the consequences of that escalation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced in a communiqué the continued aggressions by settlers “against defenseless Palestinian citizens, and the operations of sabotage and destruction of property and farms.”

The Foreign Ministry warned that this campaign is a threat to establish a future Palestinian State.

The Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories (B’Tselem) recently claimed that the Government of Tel Aviv is using the settlers’ violence to seize more Palestinian land, whose inhabitants are forbidden to protest against the plunder.

Israeli authorities, including the security forces and the law enforcement system, are fully aware of this situation, but allow and support such violence and then enjoy the result, B’Tselem stated.

According to several sources, some 490,000 settlers live across the West Bank and 200,000 others in East Jerusalem.
