DeSantis, who took advantage of the Covid-19 pandemic to deploy an ultra-conservative agenda that catapulted him nationally, is one of the figures being targeted as a possible contender for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
His agenda gave the southern state a further turn to the right. For example, in March he signed a law prohibiting public school teachers from discussing sexual orientation and gender identity with students.
He also praised the decision in the Supreme Court of Justice on June 24, which abolished the sentence in the case of Roe vs. Wade who in 1973 gave the green light to the legal right to abortion.
In a statement, DeSantis promised that Florida “will work to expand the protection of life.”
