It was the response given by the DPRK permanent representation at the United Nations in a statement released by the news agency, regarding the campaign of confrontation orchestrated by the United States and its satellites at the 10th Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
According to the North Korean diplomatic mission, the questioning by the US Government and its allies to the right of self-defense of Democratic Korea expressed in that meeting is absurd and unfair.
“A long time ago, our country withdrew from the NPT through legal procedures, according to the article stipulated in the treaty, and therefore, no one has the right or the justification to censor the exercise of self-defense by the DPRK,” the statement said.
The diplomatic delegation reiterated that the United States is the main violator of the principle of nuclear non-proliferation, and resorts to threats and blackmail with the use of nuclear weapons against sovereign nations, in a clear violation of the NPT.
The DPRK recalled that the treaty is based on nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation and the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes, which Washington unhesitatingly violates by deploying nuclear weapons abroad on the basis of its hegemonic strategy.
