The spokesman for the bloc’s 55th Meeting of Foreign Ministers, Kung Phoak, said that concern about the situation was made clear at Wednesday’s plenary session.
The meeting participants also called on all parties to resolve the dispute in the South China Sea peacefully and on the basis of existing legal principles.
The meeting called for solving “the problem peacefully and with constructive participation based on universally accepted criteria, norms, principles and laws,” Phoak was quoted as saying by The Khmer Times newspaper.
According to the spokesperson, the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea promotes the effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and accelerates negotiations on the approval of a Code of Conduct as soon as possible.
