Sources close to the leader of the Workers’ Party (PT) for the October elections stated that Lula will attend the event in the People’s Park at 15:00 hours, local time, along with Veneziano Vital, senator and pre-candidate for the state government, and former governor Ricardo Coutinho, pre-aspirant to the Senate.
The former governor (2003-2011) makes this visit after almost five years. In 2017, he visited the locality during a caravan through the northeastern region.
Lula’s agenda was initially planned for the coastal city of João Pessoa, on August 4, but it was redirected to Campina Grande, main electoral stronghold of PT senator Vital.
According to the tour program, the former president will be in Teresina, capital of Piaui state, on Wednesday, accompanied by former socialist governor Geraldo Alckmin, vice-president in the elective duo.
For almost a year, the former mechanic has been touring the regions of the country to talk to the people and strengthen “Vamos Juntos por Brasil,” the unprecedented alliance of seven progressive parties that supports the PT elective duo.
To date, Lula leads all opinion polls for the next election, in which ultra-right President Jair Bolsonaro intends a reelection.
