Canadian PM´s disapproval rating grows

Ottawa, Aug 1 (Prensa Latina) 51% of Canadians have a negative opinion of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, being highest figure reported since 2015, according to a survey by Abacus Data site.

The survey, conducted from July 22 to 27 to 2,400 adults, showed that Trudeau´s approval ratings reached just 31%, the lowest one ever.

Trudeau´s disapproval rating rose to 51% (5% more in two weeks), and highest figure ever since Trudeau was elected in 2015, and also the highest one since March 2019, as he was criticized for pressuring an attorney general to reach an agreement with a company accused of corruption.

33% of Canadians think the country is on the right track, which is 8 to 10% below where things were a year ago.

Abacus Data site added whether elections were held right now, the Conservatives would win 35% to the Liberals’ 30%, and the New Democratic Party (NDP) 19%.

Compared to latest poll, Conservatives scaled up three points while Liberals scaled down two, the statement said. According to Abacus Data CEO and founder David Colleto, such results should be a warning sign for Liberals.

“For the first time in our monitoring, 50% or more of people disapprove Trudeau´s management. Canadian Prime Minister´s disapproval rating has also reached a new high. It’s a toxic cocktail as people are unhappy with the country´s direction and disapprove of the Trudeau administration’s actions,” he said.
