Pastors for Peace in Cuba: Yes We Can

Pastors for Peace in Cuba
Havana, Jul 30 (Prensa Latina) Members of the US-Cuba Friendship Caravan of Pastors for Peace reiterated they will continue their solidarity efforts towards the Cuban people, said Gail Walker, executive director of the solidarity project, during the event for the 30th anniversary of the solidarity caravans held at the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP, in Spanish).

In emotional words, Ms. Walker stated that many of those who traveled to Cuba in the first caravans are no longer here with them, but many young people who were not born at that time are part of it today.

She highlighted the significance of celebrating this 30th anniversary with the attendance of members of Pastors for Peace and the Venceremos Brigade, two of the most prominent Cuba solidarity movements in the United States.

Walker stressed that what they have done, what they are doing and what they will continue doing shows that it can be done! and also stated that “we will be together with the Cuban people no matter what.”

The ICAP President Fernando González Llort recalled that when socialism collapse in Europe triggered a deep economic crisis in Cuba, the United States bet on the fall of the Revolution.

However, he added, Reverend Lucius Walker, founder of Pastors for Peace, supported Cuba and the struggle against US blockade in what has been “one of the most constant and sincere examples of solidarity” with the Cuban people.

He pointed out this movement collected material aid for Cubans in hundreds of cities, disclosed the Cuban reality, supported the return of Elián González and later the release of the Cuban Five.

Pastors for Peace are welcomed as brothers in Cuba, which will continue fighting for peace, peaceful coexistence and construction of a socialist society, Fernando González pointed out.
