On his Twitter account, Marrero expressed his respect and tribute to all Cubans who fell in combat to achieve the nation’s freedom.
He highlighted the work of Frank País, “a worthy example of the courage of our youth”, leader of the clandestine organization of the July 26 Movement, who was vilely assassinated on a day like today in 1957 along with his partner in struggle Raul Pujol.
The Day of the Martyrs of the Cuban Revolution was instituted with the revolutionary triumph, on January 1, 1959, to honor Frank and Pujol, as well as more than 20,000 Cubans who lost their lives in the fight to overthrow the Fulgencio Batista tyranny.
