At least 13 million Afghan children need humanitarian aid

Afganistán, niños, ayuda, humanitaria
Kabul, Jul 28 (Prensa Latina) More than 24 million people in Afghanistan, including some 13 million children, need immediate humanitarian aid, Save the Children organization reported on Thursday.

The report cited the United Nations Development Program data that 97 percent of the Afghan population faces the possibility of living below the poverty line, Khaama Press news agency reported.

Acute malnutrition affects 1.1 million Afghan children under the age of five, according to the paper.

The Covid-19 pandemic, measles, acute watery diarrhea and dengue fever are also among the many health emergencies Afghanistan is currently facing.

The rapid drop in international grants, loss of access to overseas assets and disruption of financial linkages led to a major contraction of the economy, increased poverty and financial instability, as well as high unemployment and rising prices for food and agricultural inputs.

Afghanistan is facing sanctions imposed by the United States and the West, which cut billions of dollars in development aid, and a recent earthquake that caused thousands of deaths and injuries.
