The celebration of the National Rebellion Day, Cuba’s main political commemoration will take place in the Plaza de Actos, next to the Malecon Avenue, just like on the three previous occasions (1984, 1992 and 1999) when Cienfuegos became the main venue for the celebration.
The organizers announced the transportation plan that will allow moving from early on on the 26th itself the 10,000 locals selected to attend the event on the square.
The Tomás Terry theater will host on the eve of the anniversary the political-cultural gala in tribute to the date, with the participation of the world-renowned Aragón orchestra, founded in Cienfuegos on September 30th, 1939.
On July 26th, 1953, a group of young people led by Fidel Castro, who would later become known in Cuban history as the “Centennial Generation”, attacked the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks in Santiago de Cuba and Granma, rspectively, which represented the beginning of the revolutionary struggle against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista (1952-1958).
